On October 13, the Fraternity – International HumanitarianFederation (FIHF) signed a cooperation agreement with the Roraima IndigenousImmigrants Association (AMIR). The agreement establishes that the two organizations will act jointly in the implementation and operation of the School of Music of the Music Without Borders Orchestra, at the Indigenous Cultural and Training Centre(CCFI); in organizing and supporting the development of AMIR’s agroecology project, in Taurepang indigenous communities, of the Pacaraima municipality; in a collaboration for the entrepreneurship project and in trainings through workshops and professional courses.
According to the general manager of the HumanitarianFraternity (FIHF), Friar Luciano, “that agreement represents a great step in the humanitarian response to indigenous Venezuelans; it means we are moving forward from emergency activities to the building of livelihoods that will contribute to local integration, education, preservation, exchange between cultures, and insertion into the job market, generating social and economic autonomy for these peoples, in a lasting and effective way.”
Milly, a representative of AMIR, highlighted the importance of the agreement for indigenous peoples: “it will open doors for the Pemon people, and other peoples that are here. These are opportunities that are opening up and we should know how to take advantage of them. We have a lot potential.”
Friar Luciano also pointed out that “a mutual decision of joining efforts, knowledge, technical resources, both material and human ones, for carrying out joint activities on behalf of the realization and fulfilment of the human rights of indigenous Venezuelans in Roraima, will have an impact not only for this specific people, but will bring an immeasurable contribution to all the communities into which they were inserted, and go beyond, because we are confident that the promotion of equality, dignity and peace transcends borders and reaches all of humanity.”
